  • What is Exercise Physiology
Exercise Physiologists specialise in understanding how exercise impacts the body, exploring the ways it can prevent or manage disease, promote optimal health, and support recovery from injuries or surgeries. At our core, we believe that exercise is a powerful form of medicine, and we prescribe it as such—using exercise to treat or prevent health conditions much like a doctor would with medication. We work collaboratively with your GP, specialists, and other allied health professionals to provide you with the most comprehensive care, supporting your journey towards recovery and a healthier, more active life.
  • What is the difference between an Exercise Physiologists and Physiotherapists?
Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) and Physiotherapists are both allied health professionals with unique approaches and areas of expertise. While Physiotherapists often incorporate passive therapies like massage, joint manipulation, and hands-on techniques, AEPs primarily use active therapy to prevent, manage, and treat complex medical conditions. This involves creating tailored exercise programs that target specific health issues and promote long-term physical improvement. As specialists in exercise rehabilitation, AEPs are trained to work across all stages of recovery, from acute rehabilitation right through to advanced training for competitive athletes, ensuring clients have the expertise needed to safely return to full function.
  • What is the difference between Exercise Physiologists and other exercise professionals?
What sets Accredited Exercise Physiologists (AEPs) apart from other exercise professionals is their unique combination of qualifications, expertise, and recognition within the healthcare system: University Qualified: AEPs hold a university degree in exercise physiology or a related field, giving them an in-depth understanding of how exercise impacts health and chronic conditions. Accreditation Standards: AEPs meet rigorous accreditation standards to ensure they maintain the highest level of professional competency and quality of care. Healthcare Recognition: They are eligible for registration with Medicare Australia, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs, WorkCover, and are recognised by most private health insurers. Broad Scope of Practice: AEPs are qualified to work with a diverse range of clients—from those aiming to improve general health and fitness to individuals managing chronic illnesses or recovering from injury. AEPs have specialised knowledge in clinical exercise delivery and are skilled in providing health education tailored to clients with chronic diseases and injuries. Their training equips them to design safe, evidence-based exercise interventions that support both health and recovery.
  • Can I bring my baby or child to my appointment?
Absolutely! You are more than welcome to bring your child or baby to your appointment. I understand how challenging it can be to find childcare, and I believe your health is important as a parent or guardian. Please note that, as I am the only staff member on-site, there may be limited extra hands available to help with little ones. If your child is active and on the move, it could make it a bit more challenging to stay fully focused on the appointment. I encourage you to keep this in mind so you can make the most of your time at the clinic.
  • What should I wear to me appointment or class?
For your appointment, it's best to wear gym-appropriate clothing that allows you to move comfortably. Closed-in footwear, like trainers, is ideal for strength sessions, while clean, grippy Pilates socks are recommended for working on our Pilates equipment to ensure safety and support. I encourage you to bring along a water bottle and towel - you may not always need them but best to be safe!
  • What should I expect from my initial appointment?
In your initial appointment, we’ll take the time to get to know you and understand your health goals, concerns, and any relevant medical history. This is an opportunity for me to listen to your story, discuss any symptoms or issues you’re experiencing, and answer questions you may have. Together, we’ll set clear goals and create a personalised plan to guide your journey. The session will include a physical assessment to evaluate your movement, strength, and any specific areas that may need attention. Depending on your needs, we may also explore exercises or techniques to help you feel comfortable with the approach we’ll be taking. By the end of the appointment, you’ll have a clear understanding of your plan and the next steps, helping you feel confident and supported as we work towards your health and wellness goals.
  • What should I do if I feel unwell before my appointment?
I understand that illness is a part of life, and it often comes without warning. If you’re feeling unwell, please provide as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule or cancel. No late cancellation fees will be applied in cases of illness, as I appreciate the effort to keep everyone safe and healthy. However, a no-show fee (50% of the appointment cost) will apply if no notice is given, and you simply don’t attend your appointment. I’m sure you understand that this can be challenging, as another client may be waiting for an available time slot. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding!
  • Can I use my private health insurance?
Yes, you can use your private health insurance! All our services and classes are eligible for private health rebates. Since coverage varies between insurers and policies, please check with your provider to confirm your specific entitlements. For added convenience, we offer HICAPS at the clinic, allowing you to claim instantly after your appointment. If you need more information regarding item numbers to check your insurance cover, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
  • Do I need a doctors referral to access your services?
No, you don’t need a doctor’s referral to access our services. However, if your doctor provides a referral under a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan, you may be eligible for a Medicare rebate covering up to five sessions with our practitioners. This can be a great way to support ongoing management of chronic health conditions.
  • Can I use my DVA or Workcover QLD referral with you?
Yes, you can use your Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) or WorkCover referral with us. We are registered providers for both DVA and WorkCover, allowing us to offer tailored exercise physiology services to meet your specific needs. To access these services, please obtain a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or relevant healthcare professional. This referral will enable us to collaborate effectively with your healthcare team and ensure you receive comprehensive care. For DVA clients, a valid referral is required to access exercise physiology services. The Department of Veterans' Affairs outlines that a referral to an allied health provider will last up to 12 sessions or one year, whichever ends first. Once a treatment cycle has ended, the client needs a new referral from their GP before further treatment can be provided. For WorkCover clients, a referral from your GP or treating medical practitioner is necessary to commence treatment. Exercise physiologists play a crucial role in the rehabilitation process, assisting injured workers in their recovery and return to work. Please bring your referral and any relevant documentation to your appointment to facilitate a smooth process. If you have any questions or need assistance with the referral process, feel free to contact us.
  • Do you offer virtual/telehealth consultations?
Yes, I do offer virtual consultations! Telehealth appointments are a convenient option if you're unable to visit the clinic in person. These sessions allow us to connect online and work through exercises, discuss your health goals, and adjust your program from the comfort of your own home. All you need is a stable internet connection and a device with a camera. Whether you're managing an existing plan or starting something new, telehealth can be an effective way to stay on track with your health and rehabilitation goals. Please reach out if you’d like to know more or to book a virtual session!
  • Is your clinic accessible for people with mobility needs?
Yes, the clinic is accessible for individuals with mobility needs. However, please be aware that due to standard door frame widths, access to the toilet may be challenging depending on the specific size of your wheelchair or mobility aid. If you have any concerns or specific requirements, feel free to reach out ahead of your appointment, and I’ll do my best to accommodate and ensure you have a comfortable experience at the clinic.
